Your Arrival to Lefkada - A Realistic First Hour

Most of our guests arrive a little unsure of what to expect, and that’s completely normal.
Lefkada is unique. You don’t take a ferry. Instead, you cross a floating bridge from the mainland. If you’re flying, you’ll land at Aktio International Airport (AKA Preveza Airport), , and from there it’s a short drive (depending on the date and hour).
Here’s what that first hour usually looks like:
You pick up your car (highly recommended), start driving… and within minutes, things already feel different. Less “tourist machine,” more real Greece.
Then comes the bridge. Sometimes it opens for boats. Sometimes you wait a bit. It’s not a problem - it’s just your first reminder that you’re on island time now.
As you continue toward the east coast, the landscape becomes greener, quieter, more relaxed. By the time you reach Perigiali or Nydri, most people already feel the shift.
A small tip from experience: If you arrive late, don’t count on finding everything open. It’s worth having water, something small to eat, and your directions ready.
And one more thing—don’t rush your first evening. Even if you’re tired, step outside for a moment. The light, the air, the calm… that’s the real welcome.
