By Air: Flying into Lefkada

Aktion National Airport (PVK) is the nearest airport to Lefkada, just 20 km from the island. This small airport serves seasonal international flights from many European cities between April and October and domestic flights from Athens.

From Aktion Airport:

  • By car: Lefkada is just a 25-minute drive away via a causeway.

  • By taxi: Depending on the destination, a cab to popular towns like Nydri, Perigiali, or Lefkada Town will cost around €40–€60.

  • By bus: Buses are limited but available—check local schedules beforehand.

Tip: Renting a car at the airport is a popular choice, especially if you plan to explore beaches and remote villages at your own pace.

By Car: Driving to Lefkada from Mainland Greece

One of Lefkada’s most unique features is that it’s connected to the mainland by a floating bridge, which makes it reachable by car—no ferry ticket needed.

  • From Athens: Approx. 4.5–5 hours (370 km). Drive northwest via the Athens–Patras highway, cross the Rio-Antirrio Bridge, and continue west toward Preveza and the causeway to Lefkada.

  • From Thessaloniki: Approx. 4 hours (360 km) via Egnatia Odos and then south toward Preveza.

The roads are modern and scenic, making the journey enjoyable, especially if you break it up with a stop in Nafpaktos, Ioannina, or Preveza.

By Bus: Budget-Friendly Travel

KTEL buses run daily from Athens and Thessaloniki to Lefkada. These are affordable and relatively comfortable options, especially if you’re not keen on driving.

  • From Athens KTEL Station: Buses take around 5 hours and usually cost between €30 and €35.

  • From Thessaloniki: The trip is slightly shorter (around 4 hours), with similar ticket prices.

Check the KTEL Lefkada website for current routes and schedules, especially if traveling outside of the summer season.

By Boat: Arriving from Nearby Islands

While there are no major ferry routes from Athens or other big islands, Lefkada is connected to smaller Ionian islands by boat.

  • From Kefalonia or Ithaca: Small ferries operate between these islands and Nydri Port during summer.

  • From Meganisi Island: Daily ferries to Nydri make island-hopping easy and fun.
